A Mixed Media Clock

Hi All,

Am back with my inspiration for the current challenge –Out Of the Box.  Bored of creating your signature style stuff, Here is a chance to try something new. That means something unique, something different which you haven’t tried before… A chance to try a new fold, a new technique or a new style.

Am here with a clock I have created for the first time in my craft life. If you know me, You would also be knowing that I dont try layers. My creations are always CAS.I should admit that am still poor at loading the embellishments. So thought of giving it a try.Have used so many techniques and so should I call it Mixed Media????? I better leave the decision to you. Please let me know.

I have added a step by step procedure on how I created this.

I cut two circles out of a thick cardstock. Took a decoupage Napkin and separated the topmost single ply with the design in it. Covered one of the entire circles with the decoupage Napkin applying Modpodge. Hatsoff to people who do decoupaging...This tested my patience and yes, still there is lot to learn.

Took the second circle and cut another small circle from the center which will be the place for the dial. Wanted to add some texture to this. Added some lattice pattern with the modeling paste in random. Here I didn’t have a lattice stencil. So used a lattice diecut as a stencil.

Then sponged here and there with Distress ink-Worn Lipstick. Added a subtle shine o it with my Tattered Angel  Glimmer mist.  Couldn’t capture the texture and the shine in the pic properly..

Then I traced a clock dial in a white cardstock randomly sponged with Spun sugar and Tea dye Distress Ink.

Assembled in an order of Decoupaged circle frame, then the textured circle frame and inside the clock dial prepared.

Now the outline is ready for embellishing. Embellished with lots of flowers all handmade, ball chain, clay embellishment, Pielane metal butterfly, flourishes, stick pin and pollen flowers.

The biggest flower is created with Tim holtz tattered florals third piece (6 petal) and all other small flowers were created with a five petal punch.

And, The clock is ready to be framed.

Entering this into the following challenge:
1. craftycardmakers - A touch of charm (Ends 23 nov)
2. 2cuteinkchallenges - Color challenge (Ends 22 nov)
3. dianamlarson challenge blog -Anything goes (ends 30 nov)

Candle Light Holder - With a simple tutorial (Picture heavy post)

 Hi Crafty friends,

How are you all and how is the weather out there in your place? The slight chill in the climate tells me that Christmas is fast approaching. I simply love this time of the year as there are continuous festivals to celebrate, all the ‘big’ holidays are just around the corner and the year end is in sight. And, I love it for the family fun, get together, loads of shopping and yes, the Gifts….

With a countdown to Christmas, a bundle of Christmas cooking and craft projects are on the roll.

Now on to my creation.

Am here to share a tutorial on how to gift the tea lights in a nice handcrafted box. Something common to both Diwali and Christmas. Followed the tutorial by Joann Jamieson to make this box.

  1. Took a piece of pink cardstock measuring 8 1/4” by 3 3/4”. Score at the longer side at ½”, 1 1 /8”, 7 1/8” and 7 ¾” and the shorter side at ½”, 1 1/8”, 2 5/8” and 3 ¼”. Make crisp creases.

  1. Cut out the ‘L’ shape of each corner as shown in the 2nd pic. Snip at all the four corners which will allow the little fold to flap up.

  1. Apply glue on the shaded part in the pic and glue down the outer flap towards inside as seen in the 3rd pic.

  1. Apply glue in the shaded part as shown in the 4th pic and glue it down together.

  1. Apply glue to the snipped ends and fold them to hold the box together.

  1. The box to hold the tea lights is ready.

  1. Now I took my Tim Holtz on the Edge die.

  1. Cut out 2 pcs of pattern paper and 2 pcs of the same pink card stock. Adjusted their heights and stuck them to the box.

Now, Embellish as you wish and the handcrafted cute Tea light holder is ready.

This is fairly simple to do and goes really fast.

Along with this, I made a Christmas tree treat box and a Luminary holder with a LED tealight inside.

Hope you all liked it.

Now that you have seen what I did with the theme, Its your turn! Create any project based on the above theme and link it up here. Add that personal touch to your gifts this festive season, Share it with us and you have a chance of winning a gift from the Imaginations Online store.

Not to forget, Please let me know how you liked this idea in a comment.

Supplies Used:

Linen paper
Mulberry paper flowers
Snow flake punch

Cards with water coloring technique

Hi friends,

This is a post to show my trial with water coloring technique.

I had been wanting to try cards with water coloring technique. When i saw the month's challenge at create something catchy challenges, i decided to try my hands on it... There were a lot on my list to try, here i am showing three cards i tried among those.

1. Watercolor pencils + Vellum + Dry Embossing

I dry embossed a vellum sheet with an embossing folder, highlighted the flowers and leaves on the reverse side with water color pencils. And here is the result

2. Water color + Vellum + Heat Embossing -Stained Glass Technique

I Stamped an image with Versamark ink, Heat embossed it with black Embossing powder, then colored it with water color on the reverse side.

Entering the above two cards into Imaginations online Blog challenges - All about Embossing

3. Water color + Glue

Stamped an image with white pigment ink and then outlined it with glue.. Let it dry. And then filled the insides with watercolor.

Guest Designer post at LULUPU!!!

I was so excited when I saw my card as the winner at Lulupu Blog (Inspired by Lulupu logo challenge).  To play along with the latest challenge – Go 3D, I decided to make a MDF frame and a coordinating handmade box on New Baby Boy theme.

And here are step by step..

1. I have taken a Baby theme MDF frame. I like all my MDF items to be painted with acrylic or gesso before I start working on it. Here I painted the frame with blue acrylic paint.
2. For the Borders, I chose a lovely  yellow pattern paper, cut them according to the measurements and glued them down with Mod Podge .

3. Just to highlight the theme, I decorated the header(BABY) with Pearls.
 4. The baby image is a stamp from Crafter’s companion. Coloured the image using distress inks. Added few sentiment stamps on distressed background and adhered them to the columns
5. There are rooms for two photographs which I have filled with a lattice background.
6. Finally I sprayed a coat of acrylic spray to make it water resistant.

Now, for the Gift Box part,
1. Take two pieces of heavy gsm cardstocks in white.2. Begin by measuring the size of the frame – the length, width and depth(including the projecting bits). I decided to leave a lil space around the frame when it is inside the box.3. Score the cardstock with the help of the score board. Then snip each corner on the red line. (Refer pic) This creates the glue tabs needed to assemble the box.

4. Fold the cardstock into a box shape. Be sure the glue tabs are on the inside. Glue the tabs to the sides of the box.
5. Create one more box following the same procedure a few centimetres bigger on all the sides so that it acts as a lid.
 6. Now, decorate this with pattern papers. I have used punched cutouts as borders, added sentiment, flowers, and a Ribbon with a Black circle tag where the sentiment  is heat embossed with Gold embossing powder.

Hope you like my project!!

A Tag with Prima Doll -coloring wit distress inks!

Hey all,

Am back with a tag. I loved the Prima dolls at first sight and I colored a few with distress inks. The coloring is a trial and am still learning with practice. I colored the doll picking up inks from the distress ink pads.. Gave a shimmer to the outfit with some glitter pens. I colored them two months back and I never got a chance to work with it. Finally this morning,  found some time to incorporate the image into a tag.

Took a piece of white cardstock, created the background with Spiced Marmalade and a light mustard seed shade. Stamped a flourish border at the bottom, Cut a piece from the Honey comb diecut and added it on the top as an embellishment. Now, I wanted a bold sentiment n the Kaisercraft one matched perfectly. Used the Memory Box stencil to create a sunshine on the left top and added few embellishments and am done with the tag.

Distress ink used -
Picked Raspberry, Evergreen Bough, Spun sugar(Skin) and Vintage photo to color the doll
Tumbled glass for the sunshine, Gathered twigs to color the honeycomb diecut and Stazon black to stamp.

A Anniversary Card!!!

Here is a card I created for my dear Husband on our 4th Anniversary few days back. I have always noted him liking me making simple cards.

So I decided to do a simple card but wanted a lovely sentiment as the center piece of the card. Have been searching for a perfect stamp and finally liked the one from MFT. Love this stamp set a lot.

Took a card stock, Attached a Heart diecut in the centre and then distressed it, removed the heart diecut and stamped the sentiment in the centre. Added a few Butterflies from Bo Bunny Stamp set colored with water color pencils.

This is the end result and am happy with the outcome. Pls leave your comments. That encourages and motivates me.
